You are a great ancient Egyptian pharaoh. Throughout your life you've commissioned great monuments to be built in your name, and now that you're nearing death, it's time to create your final monument and resting place: your tomb. Since this tomb is the place you will dwell for all eternity, it's important that you explain all about your life and what you will take to the afterlife.
Task #1 Write about your accomplishments as a Pharaoh. Be sure to include information about religion in Ancient Egypt, social structure and about the government during your reign as Pharaoh. Minimum 2 full typed pages ( 4 pages handwritten)
Suggestions of topics to include in your writing explain ( Include at least 4)
Why were elaborate tombs so important to pharaohs?
What does the way to tomb is decorated and the items buried tell us about you, the pharaoh?
Where is your tomb located?
Why did you place it there? What’s it made of?
How long will it take to build?Who will build it? Why is your cartouche is necessary?
How will you use the three items you put in your tomb? Why did you choose them?Explain in detail why they are included.
What was your great accomplishment?
What symbols did you put on your sarcophagus? What do they represent?
** You can add any other details that interest you after you have researched some of the sites provided such as art, clothing, daily life, roles of women, amulets etc. (The mrdonn site( listed below) has quite a bit of topics)
Task #2 Creative items that must be included in your tomb Drawings of the inside of the tomb – chose at least two • draw a cartouche of your name in hieroglyphics and one word that describes you • draw three items you’d need in the afterlife • draw a picture of one of your great accomplishments. • decorate your sarcophagus using symbols that represent your greatness Drawings need to be in color!!!! You can find images on the internet and color them in. Helpful Hints Egyptian art is plain and simple, but it's different from normal art. You can draw like an Egyptian by following these four easy rules. 1. Draw the head and the neck of your picture from the side view. Add one eye, as it would look from the front. Then outline the eye in black and add an eyebrow that is curved and black. Draw the lips also from the side view. Draw a black wig showing the ear for both men and women. 2.Draw the shoulders and chest as if you're looking at them from the front. The arms are drawn according to what the figure is holding. 3.The hips, legs and feet are drawn from the side view, too. Men wore short skirts and women wore straight dresses that were held in place by two straps.

Just like in our writing, some Ancient Egyptian symbols represented a sound. These symbols are called phonograms. We've shown in the picture below some comparisons of symbols and how they might relate to our alphabet. You will note that there are cases where two different symbols have the same sound (see the letter "Y" at the bottom). This is just like we have when some of our letters can make the same sound depending on the word (for example "c" and "k").
